After weeks of patient development and hard work, our students from 6 schools and 11 teams finally came together over two Sharing Days to showcase their business ideas.
The teams of 4 to 6 students, accompanied by their teachers and D2S:Mentors, were given the challenge to turn their dreams and passion into business concepts over the course of the 12-week Foundry program. Without limits given to what kind of businesses they could dream of, they presented unique ideas that ranged from home-robots for the aged to girls-only bars that sought to protect and educate new bar-goers to online photo service that promoted mental health.
For almost all our students, it was their first time being given the opportunity to work on a project in a team setting. Most never presented in front of a large crowd.
In the end, it was they who showed us how far they were able to take themselves from zero experience to some incredibly high standards of presentations. Although the competition was not the main point of the Foundry program, the competition was fierce!
In the end, it was the rest of us who were all humbled by the power of these teenagers’ self-belief and resilience; and how, given the opportunity, really anything is possible with these young people!
